UN coordinator stresses conditions in Dammaj are extremely difficult

During the meeting, Ahmed submitted a comprehensive report to President Hadi on his visit to the Dammaj area Sa’ada, where Houthis and Salafis are battling.

The UN resident coordinator said that the conditions in Dammaj are extremely difficult, adding that there are a lot of people in need of aid, even those who are not sided to any of the parties to the conflict, in addition to many women, children and wounded.

“We always try to deliver medical and food aid to people in need in Dammaj, but there are many difficulties to deter access to Haradh area and many others,” he said.

In his report, Ahmed indicated in detail to the difficulties obstruct the UN and the Red Cross humanitarian tasks and aid access to the conflict areas, calling on all for providing secure access for aid.

He expressed constant readiness to carry out the vital humanitarian tasks, saying “The UN Office in Sana’a receives generous aid from Britain, the USA and other European countries and can do a lot, if goodwill is provided and clashes ceased.

The President valued highly the great efforts made by the UN Office in Yemen, whether in Sa’ada or in Abyan provinces, praising the great response to meet the medical and food needs in Dammaj area.

Hadi pointed that Houthis and Salafis are participating in the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and they have to resort to Islamic teachings and rationality and to stop the continuation of this extremism that caused bloodshed, urging all to give priority to the supreme national interest to over other regional, partisan, sectarian and tribal interests.
