Qatar has donated $ 350 million to a fund to be dedicated to compensate southern state servants and military and police officers who were forced out of their jobs following the 1994 civil war in Yemen.
In a ceremony attended by President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, Qatar’s Foreign Minister Khaled al-Atiya announced the Qatari donation.
During the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace on Sunday, Al-Atiyah and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammad al-Saadi signed an agreement on the grant.
“This is a message to our brothers in the southern provinces, the via them to all Yemenis and our neighbors, that we are going on with and unrelenting determination on the way to resolve the grievances of the past,” President Hadi said in remarks during the ceremony.
Hadi said he would soon issue decrees to reinstate more than 4,000 southern army and police officers.
