EU Delegation celebrates Yemeni artists

The Head of the European Union Delegation, Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt, has hosted the first of a series of EU events aimed at celebrating Yemeni art and music.

The event included an exhibition of paintings and photographs, music, poetry and the screening of two short films by young Yemeni film-makers.

Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt, said “I am extremely pleased the EU Delegation is sponsoring this event, which gives us the opportunity to celebrate young Yemeni talents.

This is a humble contribution from the EU to recognise and promote the role of art and culture during this historic transition period Yemen is going through.”

The art exhibition included paintings and sculptures by Nasser al-Aswadi and photographs by Ibi Ibrahim, Thana Faroq, Osama al-Eryani, Eman al-Awami, Addulrahman Jaber, Hanan Ishaq, with music by Bashir Rami and poetry by Wadhah al-Jaleel. Two short films by Salim Ismael and Daris Qaed were also screened.

The event was attended by the visiting EU Director for the Arabian Peninsula and the Middle East, Christian Berger. Yemeni artists, officials, journalists and members of the diplomatic community attended the celebration.
