The Group of Ten ambassadors representing the five permanent UN Security Council members, the GCC and the EU welcomed on Monday the UN Security Council’s resolution No. 2140 on Yemen.
“The G10 congratulates the United Nations Security Council on the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 2140”, the ambassadors said in a joint statement.
“This important document rightfully recognizes the significant accomplishment of the members of the National Dialogue Conference and completion of the second phase of the overall transition. The Resolution also reaffirms the way forward as outlined in the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative”.
The ambassadors said that they were looking forward to the appointment of the constitutional drafting committee as the next step in the transition, hoping that the spirit of cooperation demonstrated during the National Dialogue will guide the committee towards completion of this crucial task.
The Group also noted the role of the National Organization in ensuring the implementation of the Dialogue outcomes and in supervising the work of the constitutional drafting committee.
“It is crucial that this task be completed in a timely manner so that the transition can continue and national attention and efforts can be directed at addressing the economic and security challenges facing the nation”.
“The G10 takes this opportunity to reaffirm its support for the leadership of President Hadi and those figures who are dedicating themselves to creating a new Yemen that will serve the needs of all Yemenis”.
