Al-Zayani: Escalation in Sana’a may impede political process

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdul Latif Al-Zayani warned on Sunday against the continuation of the current escalation in the capital Sana’a which could hinder the political process in Yemen.

In a statement to Saba, he called on all political powers and components of the
Yemeni society to stick to the implementation of the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and to actively contribute to creating suitable atmospheres to finalize implementation of the 3rd phase of the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism.

He affirmed support of the GCC for the national presidential initiative, praising role of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to solve this worrying situation.

Al-Zayani expressed hope that all Yemeni parties and political actors agree on the political process based on the outcomes of the NDC.

“The Yemeni political settlement has achieved significant, positive and appropriate steps and proved for the whole world how crises could be handled in a wise and civil steps,” GCC Secretary General said.

He added that “few steps left to finalize the interim period which are the implementation of the NDC outcomes, finalizing the drafting of the new constitution and voting on it, and holding the elections.”

At the conclusion of his statement, Al-Zayani stressed the importance to refer to the NDC outcomes and solve escalation through wisdom and dialogue, voicing support of the GCC to continue providing all political and economic support for Yemen.
