EU official confirms continuation of Union’s support to Yemen

Charge d’Affaires of the EU mission in Sana’a Christian Weitz confirmed that the EU would continue to support Yemen and that the terrorist attacks would not affect the relations between the two sides.

Foreign Minister Dr. Abu Bakr al-Qirbi in his meeting on Tuesday with the EU Charge d’Affaires touched on the terrorist incident that targeted two French nationals working for the EU’s mission in Sana’a yesterday and led to the killing of one and wounding the other.

The minister renewed the Yemeni government’s condemnation of the terrorist operation that harms the reputation and interests of Yemen, which comes in conjunction with the military crackdown carried out by the armed forces against al-Qaida.

Dr. al-Qirbi expressed his sincere condolences to the French government, the European Union and to the families of the victims, wishing speedy recovery for the injured.

In turn, the EU Charge d’Affaires expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of government, Foreign Ministry and security forces and their rapid response in dealing with the incident, ministering the wounded and tracing the perpetrators.

The EU’s official confirmed that these attacks would not affect the relations between the two sides, rather they would make them stronger so as to achieve the mutual interests of Yemen and the EU countries.
