A detailed report on the lessons learned from the Yemeni experience in organizing and managing a dialogue will be issued soon, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen Jamal Benomar said Wednesday.
Benomar made the statement in a speech he delivered in the conclusion of a meeting organize by his office and held in a retreat in Rabat on the lessons learned from Yemen’s National Dialogue Conference (NDC).
The popular and political will of the Yemenis, the wise leadership of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the support of the international community and GCC were key components led to the success of Yemen’s National Dialogue, Benomar said.
He commended praised the Yemeni women and men for presenting a unique, inspirational and meaningful model for international mediation and transition processes around the world.
The meeting held in response to requests from several countries that are considering organizing similar dialogues.
Among the participants were NDC Secretary-General Ahmed Ben Mubarak, representative of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Yemen Saad al-Arifi and a number of UN and Yemeni experts.
The discussions focused in two days on lessons learned from the preparatory process for the NDC, its rules of procedure, structure and agenda, in addition to the committees and working groups that were established to facilitate and manage the dialogue.
The participants also highlighted the importance of the lessons in communications and public participation, as well as the support of the international community.
