The European Union has strongly condemned the violence which has shaken the city of Amran and surrounding areas in recent days.
“The EU strongly condemns the violence which has shaken the city of Amran and surrounding areas in recent days, where Houthis, Islahi, Salafi and other armed groups and army units are fighting”, an EU spokesperson has said in a statement on the situation in the North of Yemen.
“The EU deplores the casualties, in particular among civilians. It urges all parties to abide by the existing ceasefire agreements, notably the ceasefire agreement of 22nd June, and to allow immediate and unimpeded humanitarian access to the affected areas. The EU stresses the importance that all involved, including all army units, respect the authority of the State”, the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson went on to say “Acts aimed at fuelling violence in the north compromise Yemen’s transition. The EU recalls the need for all parties to hand over weapons and ammunition to national authorities in line with the recommendations of the National Dialogue Conference and to fully engage in the political process under the leadership of President Hadi. UN Security Council Resolution 2140 is a clear signal to any spoiler who threatens the peace, security and stability in Yemen”.
